BlackBerry app issues (non-Android)

Here are a few things that could be happening if TripIt is not working with your BlackBerry.

If you have a company-issued BlackBerry (BES), your company might have restricted its usage.

Some companies have restricted what can be done with their company-issued phones, such as installing
applications or lower-level permissions.  Access to the BlackBerry browser is a requirement for installation

1. Contact your company's IT administrator to determine if the restriction can be lifted.

2. We will be happy to answer any questions from your company’s technical support personnel concerning our
application. Just have them write to us at support@tripit.com.

Note: TripIt does not support Blackberry 10 at this time but we are looking at supporting the BB10 in the future.

Your connection might be poor or you might have exceeded the sign-in time limit.

If you see Access cannot be granted at this time, try this:
1. Go to the TripIt website and sign in there, selecting the Keep me signed in button.

2. Once you have signed in, you can then start the TripIt app and quickly grant authorization.

You might have changed the default permission settings when installing the app.

1.Set all permission settings to allow/permit:

  • Navigate to the Options application. This may be on the home page, or in a folder called Settings.
  • Open the Options application (it usually looks like a crescent wrench or spanner).
  • Click on Advanced Options.
  • Click on Applications.
  • Navigate down to the TripIt application (it might be titled TripIthigh, TripItlow, or TripIttouch).
  • Click the menu button.
  • Choose Edit Permissions.
  • Set all permission settings to allow/permit.

2. If that doesn't work, you can try reinstalling the app:

  • Navigate to the Options application. This may be on the home page, or in a folder called Settings.
  • Open the Options application (it usually looks like a crescent wrench or spanner).
  • Click on Advanced Options.
  • Click on Applications.
  • Navigate down to the TripIt application (it might be titled TripIthigh, TripItlow, or TripIttouch).
  • Click the menu button.
  • Choose Delete Application.
  • Then reinstall the app, making sure to allow all default permission settings.

You might have received an error message, such as (though not limited to) HTTP 400.

The app could have chosen a network path that doesn’t work.  Follow these steps to change your network settings:

1. Click the menu button on your BlackBerry.

2. Go to Settings >> Network Configuration Settings

3. You will see a pop-up screen that will allow you to change your network settings.  Unfortunately there are far too
many different BlackBerry devices as well as a countless set of configuration settings for us to give you instructions
specific to your device, but here are some things to keep in mind as you change your settings on this screen:

  • If you have a personal blackberry, BIS is probably your best choice.
  • If you have a company-issued blackberry, BES is probably your best choice.
  • However, if you have a company-issued blackberry and your IT administrators want you use to use VPN
connections, then you should choose TCP and work with them on configuration.
  • If you have a company-issued BlackBerry, your IT administrators may be able to tell you which option to use.
  • If you make a change to these settings, you can always change it back to the default by selecting Auto.
  • Nothing will break if you experiment with every option.  Try each option until you find one that works for you.

4. In some cases, a soft reset of your blackberry will help with network issues.  Take the batteries out, wait a few seconds, reinstall them.

You might have an older BlackBerry.

Phones with RIM operating systems older than 4.3 and older models like the 71xx, 72xx, 81xx, 83xx, and 87xx series may not work.

1. If you have an older operating system, contact your carrier’s technical support or your company's IT administrators to determine
if your phone's operating system can be upgraded.

2. If you have an older phone, particularly a phone without a menu key or trackwheel, it is unlikely that your phone will be compatible with our application.
